Jason Griffin is an entrepreneur's attorney, licensed in Texas. For nearly two decades he has helped business owners and their families structure, protect, and transition what they've built—work that sits at the intersection of business law, tax strategy, and estate planning. At SSG, Jason brings that legal, tax, and insurance perspective to the firm's wealth transfer, business transition, executive benefits, and ESOP engagements, so that the planning a client approves is planning that can actually be documented, funded, executed, and monitored over time. Working alongside John Griffin and the SSG team, he helps clients get legal, tax, and insurance input coordinated in one conversation.
At SSG Companies
Jason works alongside the SSG team across each of the firm's core practice areas:
- Wealth Transfer Planning: Coordinating life insurance strategies with trust design to help ensure coverage aligns with estate planning objectives.
- Business Transition and Value Enhancement: Supporting buy-sell agreements, succession planning, business restructuring, and insurance funding strategies for closely held businesses.
- ESOP Repurchase Liability: Assisting sponsor companies and their advisors with funding strategies for future repurchase obligations.
- Executive Benefits: Supporting benefit arrangements designed to recruit, reward, and retain key employees.
- Premium Financing and In-Force Plan Review: Reviewing financed and existing insurance policies, including loan terms, collateral requirements, and long-term strategies, and identifying potential adjustments as circumstances change.
Background
Jason is the founder and managing member of Griffin Law Firm, PLLC, a Houston-based practice serving entrepreneurs, business owners, investors, and private equity groups. His work spans business planning and entity structuring, business sales and acquisitions, capital formation and private equity, commercial real estate, tax strategy, and estate planning—from dynasty trusts and asset protection to buy-sell agreements and succession structures. Clients come to him when the decision is consequential and the path is not obvious.
Before practicing law, Jason founded and ran Innova Mortgage, LLC, a mortgage bank and brokerage licensed in California, New York, and Texas. He built the company's origination, processing, and underwriting operations, managed its regulatory compliance and warehouse credit facility, and analyzed commercial real estate projects for lender presentation. That experience—running a business, meeting a payroll, answering to regulators—informs how he advises owners today.
